Vermont Incorporated Villages: A Vanishing Institution

mbfriends

This resource was written by Edward T. Howe. It is a 24 page overview of the history and current status of Villages in Vermont. At the time of writing, 40 incorporated villages existed. The current number in 2022 will soon be 33 with the dissolution of Perkinsville and the transition of Essex Jct from a village to a City.

ABOUT US >

The Village Project is made up of residents of Colchester. We believe that incorporating Westbury as a village (something Vermonters have done since 1816) makes sense to manage the services we inherited when 10 VSA 6242 helped us keep our neighborhood from being sold to developers.

We are pursuing this path to strengthen our community as it is the best form of government to promote greater participation, equal voice and shared responsibility.

Discussions are the only way we find solutions!

> KEEP ME IN THE LOOP

Good luck to all of us!

STATEMENT ON CONTENT >

The information on this site represents what we have learned from research over the past year. It is an honest attempt to provide insight on how residents of the Westbury area might benefit from the formation of a municipality. We continue to learn more and more every day. Please bring any incorrect data to our attention! Thank you!

WHAT CAN YOU DO >

Help us finish what we started. Whether you live in Westbury, elsewhere in Colchester or miles away. We have projects that could benefit from what you know and what you have learned.
