Vote. (every day!)
Our community is made up of over 500 people and as many different viewpoints on how things should be done.
We often think of voting as going to the High School on Town Meeting Day (or not going) and maybe for an election in November.
But there is more to it. Voting is how you show your level of support of something or someone. It does not have to cost anything and we can do it every day:

We vote when we pick one gas station over another. We vote when we wave to someone driving by.

As a community, we vote when we show up for 15 minutes at a social committee function or we pick up a candy wrapper in the mailroom and put it in the trash (or leave it on the floor).

If the residents of Westbury move forward and form a village, it will need to work closely with the Co-op to make a difference. The Westbury Co-op is a democratically run not for profit organization. Every household that has joined gets a vote in co-op business. With a village, every registered voter living in the village would be eligible to vote on village business. Many of the same voices will be on both teams.

Today, it seems America has found two ways to act: one way is about building things and the other is about tearing things down. This is different than voting. Voting "yes", "no", and even abstaining are all part of building things. If we create a village, we will need to be ready to build something that can be in the interest of all Westbury residents.

The process for voting on forming a village would officially be a petition to the Town of Colchester to form a Village of Westbury. By signing the petition, a registered voter would be asking the Town to create the Village. A majority of the registered voters who reside in Westbury signing the petition would result in the formation of the village.

After the petition, it would be up to each of us to determine how successful the village would be - mostly, by voting whenever we can.
